The first requirement for developing this curriculum was to make sure that someone interested in learning, with no money to pay for any support , no access to support, and or someone uncomfortable learning with support could try to learn what they needed to learn to engage in a modern commercial world.
At this point, we believe enough material is out there to say this is "doable". We do not feel that is the best use of time nor is it the most efficient by any means, but we do feel it's doable. Having trusted advisor assist with his education and access to computer with multiple monitors will help greatly but it is doable.
There are three components to learning about Accounting Literacy in a Digital Age.
Foundational Education and Theory about cognitive frameworks and concepts
Data Management Theory - Manual Systems
Data Management Theory and Practice - Digital Systems
We have provided resources for these areas.
That said, we readily admit the current offerings may not be in the form or order that someone seeking to self study might prefer. They may include details that are confusing or require more energy or time than they should.
When we are able to gain feedback from those who attempt to do this via self study, we will make changes for efficiency. An opportunity to observe some of those doing self-study would help, but if we could observe them, it wouldn't qualify as self-study in the truest sense.
For most, starting with the Sale System Website may be best. It was designed to be the entry into this for self study.
That said, for some who may like more of a broader picture first or who can skim well, , starting with a glimpse at the Model Office Curriculum and or the Business Education may be a better first step. Not for mastery, just for visual orientation.
Nobody should jump to the Bookkeeping Software website without reviewing the other work first.
Understanding what is and is not supposed to be included in a Bookkeeping System is best learned by moving through the sales system education first.
Furthermore and possibly more importantly, it's better to learn about this new genre of database driven spreadsheet templates via sales systems first. They are easier to learn on and easier to feel comfortable with far faster.
Two stand alone Websites for Accounting Literacy - We offer two core websites for Accounting Literacy. One is for Sales System and Sales System Software Education. The other is for Bookkeeping System and Bookkeeping system software education.
Those websites offer "text book style curriculum" that is intended to be printed out and self bound in three ring binders for annotation for reference
Those websites offer "software templates" done in Google Sheets to assist with learning.
These two websites include the word "software" in them, but in fact, they are wholistic learning systems with robust education that is software independent as well.
These websites are:
Model Office Curriculum - We offer "Model Office Curriculum" that was intended to help people understand and organize small offices without a full Commercial Education. There is a "Small Business Literacy" document there that includes an introduction to Bookkeeping and Accounting that may be beneficial. There is also an "Intro to Bookkeeping and Accounting via manual systems" tht many people may find very valuable for the bookkeeping education.
The current webpage for this information is found at:
Business Curriculum - We offer a robust Business Curriculum that was designed to replace the curriculum in a College Business Program. A portion of that curriculum includes BKA 101 - which is Bookkeeping and Accounting Theory for Spreadsheets. This was designed to be a supplement to the Model Office information.
The current webpage for the Business Offerings is found at that follownig link. When you get there, look for the Accounting Section.
